The United Women in Faith (UWF) have been quite active, as seen during worship the final Sunday of each month. Leola shared about what it means to be a Deaconess in January and Jill did a wonderful job of sharing a shortened version of Glenda’s program over social injustice.
Jill showed us a video that taught us when it comes to racism that when we are silent, that “what we permit, we promote”. The video had many other great tips and tidbits and can be viewed from our Facebook page or our website on the Feb 26th service. Great job to all our women who have been giving the programs and the UWF Mission Minutes at the Sunday services.
The women cover some interesting topics each month. They meet the first Saturday of the month from 9-Noon and have food, a devotion, and a program. They decide in December who will do various jobs from month to month: devotions, hostess, program, etc. At the end of the year, they elect any offices that are going to be vacant the next year.
This year Cheryl is chair, Glenda is vice chair, secretary of program resources is Hazel, treasurer is Elaine, and secretary is Jill. In January, over Martin Luther King day, a few of our women joined with women of various other churches, in El Dorado and participated in a day of sewing. It was a mission for women overseas to provide with needed items.
There will be a retreat March 11th at Flutterbye Ranch in Leon, KS. It is a one-day retreat and many of our women have signed up. It is not too late to sign up. Information on our Facebook and Instagram page – or you could call Cindy Boone at 620-583-4593 to register. The door registration for the conference is $30.
Elaine has the program in March on the 4th. We have a special trip to do some barn quilt viewing on the first Saturday in April. The Mother/Daughter program is the first Saturday in May. Then we take a break in the summer.
Women are welcome to come get involved in this worthy program. Ask any officer for more information. Men, we look forward to showing you what is going on during our UWF Mission Minutes on the final Sunday of each month.
We are saddened to hear Tricia Brown will no longer be able to be our piano player. She has been such a blessing in sharing her musical talents with us every other week! We are doing a card and money shower to be given to her at the March 12th service.
The whole congregation got in the action of cheering on the KC Chiefs, especially when they are playing in the Super Bowl and your pastor is a big fan!! We had a visit from Coach Reid to bring on the Kansas City chant to end our service. We’re sure we were instrumental in their victory.
Returning once again, was the UMM Pancake Supper on Feb. 1st. It did include others to help out to make this event a success. Thanks to all who supported us. We still have a few packages of sausage left over if you would like to purchase.
DHS Guys & Gals Basketball Team Tailgate Party
We hosted the teams with a Mexican dinner on Feb. 16th. Thanks to all who helped feed these hungry teenagers! We love cheering on our Bulldogs.
Ash Wednesday Service
Our service marked the beginning of our Lenten journey. It was a quiet evening of reverence as we were marked with a cross to remember to dust we will return.
Community Dinners & TEFAP
Thanks to all of you and your generous food donations and giving of your time to make the meals happen every Wednesday evening. The numbers keep increasing and also the phone calls for help with food and groceries. We are so thankful for our faithful TEFAP group who monthly help to serve the needs in our community. Last year they served: 12,532 lbs of food at a cost of $2,115. Produce is always free, with it amounting to 4,687 lbs. Your food pantry dollars at work helping out our community.
